No Green Card For Indians? No Problem Says IT minister!
The United States Green card is one of the most desired documents in the world as it provides permanent residency in the country.
By: Tupaki Desk | 9 Oct 2026 1:48 PM ISTThe United States Green card is one of the most desired documents in the world as it provides permanent residency in the country. This is one of the dreams for the Indian population that travels to the United States for employment opportunities.
However, the United States has started to cut down on the volume of the green card applications as they have restricted several companies from applying for the same for their employees.
Earlier, the United States administration had communicated that several companies, including Microsoft, TCS, HCL, Infosys and many others have been restricted from applying for green cards for their employees.
While there is a lot of discussion and debt happening on this matter, we have the case of a young IT minister from India, who is creating a new discourse with his latest statement. He is Priyank Kharge, who is the IT minister of Karnataka.
According to Kharge, for the traditional Indian IT outsourcing model, this is clearly a headwind. It could mean higher operating costs in the United States, greater difficulty in retaining skilled employees and reduced flexibility in deploying Indian professionals onsite.
For India as a technology hub, however, the implications could be very different. If moving Indian engineers to the United States becomes more difficult and expensive, more high-value work may increasingly move to where the talent already is available, he says.
