The Donald Trump administration in the United States is taking severe toll on the country’s economic index.
By: Tupaki Desk | 15 Oct 2025 12:24 PM ISTThe Donald Trump administration in the United States is taking severe toll on the country’s economic index. The latest Henley Passport Index has revealed a major decline in the power of the U.S. passport, marking its lowest ranking in the index’s 20-year history.
Once known for its global strength, the U.S. passport has now slipped to the 10th position, allowing visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 182 destinations. This drop reflects growing competition from Asian and European countries, which now dominate the top ranks.
Singapore, Japan, France, Germany, and Italy hold the most powerful passports in 2025, giving their citizens access to 194 countries without a visa. The Henley Passport Index, published by Henley & Partners, uses data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to measure global mobility and visa freedom.
Experts say the decline of the U.S. passport highlights the country’s weakening global influence and tightening visa policies worldwide. In contrast, countries like South Korea and Spain have strengthened their international access, overtaking traditional powers.
Despite remaining in the top 10, the U.S. passport’s slip is seen as a symbolic fall from its once “superpower” travel status. Analysts suggest that diplomatic relations, security restrictions, and stricter immigration measures have all contributed to the U.S. losing its former dominance in global travel freedom.
