Ban on p*rn: USA to follow India’s path?
A new U.S. bill, the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act (IODA), introduced by Senator Mike Lee and backed by Representative Mary Miller, aims to impose a federal ban on online p*rnography.
By: Tupaki Desk | 15 May 2025 9:49 PM ISTThis already known that India has become one of the first countries to impose a ban on p*rn. The country has recently imposed a ban on such adult content in view of the prevailing social situation, which has to be detrimental against the female population.
On that note, something pretty substantial appears to be happening with regard to the United States as well, and the latest development was suggesting that there could be adequate action against such adult content in the U.S. as well.
A new U.S. bill, the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act (IODA), introduced by Senator Mike Lee and backed by Representative Mary Miller, aims to impose a federal ban on online p*rnography.
The bill proposes a stricter definition of “obscenity,” targeting explicit content that appeals to prurient interests, depicts s*xual acts, and lacks serious literary, artistic, or scientific value.
Its goal is to criminalize the transmission of such content across state lines, giving law enforcement broader power to act. Supporters argue that current laws are outdated and ineffective in protecting minors from extreme online content, while critics see it as a threat to free expression.
It has to be the scene if this would actually come to effect very soon or whether it would be just a thought to be discussed by the concerned authorities.
