It is already known that the United States president Donald Trump is a largely radical and unpredictable personality. He is back at it now again, as he is set to make a significant contribution to the Pakistani military.

The United States government under President Donald Trump has moved forward with a new six hundred eighty six million dollar military support package for Pakistan, mainly aimed at sustaining and upgrading its fleet of F sixteen fighter jets. The proposal was recently sent to the United States Congress for review, beginning a thirty day period before it can be formally approved.

The package focuses on modernising Pakistan’s existing aircraft rather than supplying new jets, which the United States says will strengthen Pakistan’s ability to conduct counterterrorism missions and coordinate more effectively with American forces.

The support program includes advanced communication systems, updated avionics, mission planning tools, training modules, simulators and a full range of maintenance and logistical services.

Only a small portion of the total amount is for major defence equipment, while the rest covers upgrades, spare parts and long term technical assistance. According to American officials, these enhancements will extend the operational life of Pakistan’s F sixteen fleet through the year two thousand forty and help maintain flight safety and readiness.

The United States has stated that the package will not change the overall military balance in South Asia. However, the decision has drawn attention in the region since defence cooperation between Washington and Islamabad often influences India’s strategic calculations.
