Earlier this month, Uttarakhand faced a tunnel collapse as a portion of the Silkyara Bend - Barkot tunnel collapsed. As many as 41 workers were trapped inside the tunnel and the rescue operations have been going on since then. Today marks the 17th day of the rescue operations.

Now the latest developments in the issue say the operations go one step forward in rescuing the trapped workers. Rat-hole miners started the operations and the drilling work began there. The rescue operation includes pushing 55.3 metres of the pipe and just a few meters are left.

As per the information, only 5 - 10 meters of pipe should be pushed to reach the spot. Once the rescuers reach the spot they can be rescued easily. If no obstacles take place the rescue operation might be completed at the earliest.

The rescue operation would have been completed had not the drilling machine faced issues and developing troubles. As the rescue operation was halted with this, manual drilling was started and the authorities are saying that only a few meters are left.

As a big development in the rescue operation, the process of laying off the pipes in the tunnel to take out the workers has been completed. This was announced by none other than Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Taking to social media he announced the news.

On the other hand, a hospital was made ready to treat the workers. A special ward at a hospital in Uttarkashi was equipped with as many as 41 beds to treat the workers. More details will be announced once the rescue operation is completed.

The 2023 Uttarakhand tunnel collapse was reported when a portion of the under-construction tunnel collapsed. The project aims at improving the connectivity to Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri famous Hindu pilgrimages.
