Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay is preparing for his political debut in the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly election, and he filed his nomination from Perambur and Trichy East constituencies today.

Going into the story, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and film star‑turned‑politician Vijay has formally entered the Tamil Nadu Assembly election race by filing his nomination papers from the Perambur constituency in north Chennai.

In his election affidavit, Vijay declared total assets worth ₹520 crore, comprising ₹405 crore in movable assets and ₹115 crore in immovable property, underscoring his entry as one of the wealthiest contesting candidates in the state polls.

With the April 23 poll date looming, Vijay addressed supporters after filing papers, urging voters to support the party’s whistle symbol and pledging a new political alternative to the incumbent government. He repeated criticisms of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), accusing it of misgovernance and appealing for change in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.

Perambur, a key urban seat with over two lakh voters and a history as a DMK bastion, will see a high‑profile contest as Vijay seeks to unseat the sitting MLA from the rival camp.

Party sources noted that this nomination marks a pivotal moment in his political debut and could influence TVK’s overall performance in the elections. Vijay is also contesting from Tiruchirappalli East in a dual‑seat strategy aimed at enhancing his chances of entering the state legislature.
