Beyond Jagan and CBN, Who’s The New CM Of Andhra Pradesh?

By: Tupaki Desk | 7 Sept 2026 6:30 PM ISTAndhra Pradesh politics have been largely stagnated in nature for the last few decades as the chief minister candidates are primarily coming from only two families.
First, it was the dominance of YS Rajasekhar Reddy since 2004 and 2009. But this was followed by one term of Chandrababu Naidu in 2014, followed by YS Jagan again in 2019. After this term, Chandrababu became the CM again in 2024.
If we look at the pattern that has been developing, it is extremely clear that the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh are coming either from TDP or YSR Congress. Even today, the situation is such that only Jagan or Chandra Babu are projected to become the CMs.
But for a change, we not have a new formation in play as Vijaya Sai Reddy, who was earlier with YSR Congress has stepped out and launched his own political party today. He has communicated that the chief candidate for his party will be beyond the Kamma and Reddy lines.
He made it very clear that his party chief minister candidate would be picked based on the merit, and said he himself would not be in contention for the same.
We have a new CM formation display in Andhra Pradesh in the form of this new party from Sai Reddy. But considering the week, electoral prospect of this party and it’s very first election campaign in 2029, it should be farcical to discuss about the CM already.
That we have Pawan Kalyan from Janasena, but he doesn’t appear to be ambitious enough to take on the CM chair at this point in time.
