Can Vijay Become The Giant In Tamil Nadu Politics?

Putting an end to the long suspense, Thalapathy Vijay made a big announcement on his political path. He announced the political party named Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. However, the party will not contest the Lok Sabha elections as it aims for the 2026 general elections in Tamil Nadu.

With this Vijay joined the list of actors who took the political path to start a new chapter. It is common for the experts to analyze the political situation whenever a star enters the political arena and the same happened with Vijay.

Will Vijay emerge as the next big thing in Tamil Nadu politics is the question many have. Observers are giving their take on whether this is possible or not. Moreover, film glamor influencing the elections is not new in Tamil Nadu and we have seen this many times.

DMK and AIADMK are the major parties in the state. While the former is the current ruling party, the former was in power in the previous term. With this, we can understand the dominance the two parties have in the political space.

In the middle of this, Vijay started the party. A few think that if everything goes well then Vijay might take the place of AIADMK and even eat into the vote share of the small parties in the state.

AIADMK lost its charm with the demise of Jayalalithaa. Though the party was in power in the last tenure, the internal fights made the party weak. The party still struggles with the same as Palaniswamy, Panneerselvam, and Sashikala are fighting for leadership. Even if the three come to a common opinion there is no clarity on whether it can bounce back or not.

There are a few parties in the state like TMC and Vijayakanth's Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK). In every election, they contest the elections but they don't win seats in big numbers. If the star hero can give the impression that he can be the next big thing, then he can get the votes of the small parties.

Every time the film star enters politics there would be a lot of buzz around them. The likes of MGR and Jayalalithaa rose to power. However, this is not proven all the time. Vijayakanth and Kamal Haasan could not see the same success and leave their mark. Vijayakanth served as the opposition leader while Kamal Haasan could not reach the expectations. So only time decides who becomes what. Let us wait and see.
