We had extensively reported that one of the leading legendary companies in the field of media, Washington Post had cleared out nearly 1/3rd of its employee group in the recent layoff.

Now the latest development are suggesting that the company has given fired its own CEO after having cleared out its employees in the recent past.

Will Lewis, the chief executive and publisher of The Washington Post, has stepped down just days after the company carried out massive layoffs.

The cuts, which eliminated about a third of the newsroom, hit a wide range of departments and drew strong criticism from staff and observers who saw them as damaging to the paper’s editorial strength.

Lewis, who had been leading the paper’s transformation for the past two years, announced his departure in a brief message to employees, saying he felt it was the right time to move on.

His exit came amid growing discontent over how the layoffs were handled, including his absence at the meeting where staff were first told about the cuts. Internal frustration had been building over both editorial decisions and the direction of the organization.

In the wake of Lewis’s departure, chief financial officer Jeff D’Onofrio has been named acting CEO and publisher. The staff union described Lewis’s exit as overdue and urged the paper’s owner, Jeff Bezos, to reconsider the layoffs or even sell the newspaper to someone willing to invest more in journalism.

The changes have sparked protests among current and former employees, raising questions about the Post’s future direction as it deals with financial pressures and industry challenges.
