WhatsApp users now have a new feature coming up that allows messages to be deleted within 15 minutes of sending. Previously, the app allowed deletion only within a shorter time frame, but the update gives users more flexibility to retract messages sent by mistake or with errors.
This feature works for both individual chats and group conversations. Once a message is deleted, it disappears from the recipient’s chat as well, though a note indicates that a message was removed. Users are advised to ensure both their app and the recipient’s app are updated for smooth functioning.
The update reflects WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to enhance privacy and control for its 2+ billion users globally, making digital communication safer and reducing accidental sharing of messages.
The new 15-minute deletion window is expected to be particularly useful in professional chats, group discussions, and casual conversations, giving users a brief but meaningful window to correct mistakes.
There are also reports that WhatsApp could soon be permitting phone, calls and messages without the need for registered mobile number as people can start using usernames for the same. It has to be seen if this would actually turn out to be the case in reality.
