Money plays a key role in one's life and it is common to get money as a gift. Employees are given a bonus if they work hard. In functions, guests give money as gifts. The same is the trend in any nation. But there is something that is seen only in India and guests follow a pattern.

Whether cash gifts or donations Indians add one rupee like 51, 101, and 501. While the trend has been going on for many decades people wonder why we add one rupee and make the number odd.

Experts say that it is an age-old tradition. It is said that 0 signifies the end while 1 signifies the beginning. Not only that giving money in an odd number will strengthen the bond between the giver and taker.

Coins are made of metals and they are seen as Goddess Lakshmi, who is the Goddess of wealth. As a token of handing over good luck and support to others money is given and that too the amount would be in odd numbers.

People going to temples have the habit of offering amounts like 11,21,51,101. Elders say that offering money is seen as a sign of showing love. To express the devotion towards the almighty money in odd numbers is offered.

The tradition has been going on for centuries and gets passed on to the next generation from elders. The cycle goes on and the next generations will also be taught the same. Looks like the circle goes on forever.
