Narendra Modi took the BJP to power for the third consecutive term. However, he faced a lot of issues in the 3rd term. BJP could not reach the magic figure on its own and BJP took the support of the allies. BJP went to elections with the aim of 400 seats but the reality was different.

Post the elections there was an opinion that Narendra Modi’s image did not work and there is a need to focus on the next leader to replace him as he might not face the next elections. Modi is already 75 and he would be close to 80 by the next elections.

With this, the focus went on to the debate on who will be the successor of Modi. Two names are said to be in the race for this. As per the political observers, Amit Shah and Yogi Adityanath might be in consideration.

Amit Shah: He is the Union Home Minister now and he has the image of a Troubleshooter. Amit Shah is said to be in the number 2 position in the party after Modi. Narendra Modi and Amit Shah have known each other since their younger days and Amit Shah played a key role in the rise of Narendra Modi.

Known as Political Chanakya, Amit Shah is said to be in the race for the big position. He is a good orator and can change his strategies based on the situation. It is said that some seniors in the party are backing him.

Yogi Adityanath: The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister gave a big breather to the party in the state. Under his leadership, the BJP won two consecutive terms in UP. Though he is accused of doing Hindutva politics Yogi left a big mark as a leader with infrastructure development.

Moreover, RSS and other outfits are said to be backing him. If a question of who between Amit Shah and Yogi the outfits might prefer the latter. This is the image the UP CM has.

It is said that the BJP leadership is also worried about whom to pick. If they want a senior like Narendra Modi then Amit Shah might get a chance and if they want to go with a young leader Yogi might get a chance.

RSS has been the supporting strength of the BJP. This time RSS is said to have not supported the BJP and we have seen the outcome. So whoever becomes Modi's successor would have to maintain cordial relationships with the RSS. What RSS thinks is also a big aspect here.

If RSS-backed candidates should be supported then we cannot rule out the possibility of Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari being in the race. Both leaders started their journey from RSS and became Union Ministers. They both are in good books of the RSS still and this might come in handy.

If not then the race might be between Amit Shah and Yogi Adityanth. It looks there are multiple options for the question of who will be Modi’s successor. We have to see which option the BJP picks.
