It is putting some serious efforts into this proposal and a serious exercise has been going on.

The BJP-led Centre is adamant about the One Nation One Election proposal. It is putting some serious efforts into this proposal and a serious exercise has been going on.
The Union Government even constituted a special committee to look into various aspects of the Jamili elections and the body is headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind. The committee is seeking opinions on this from various parties.
The opposition parties have been opposing the proposal saying that holding simultaneous elections is not possible and that the elections are slated to be commenced at different time frames in various states.
The grand old Congress Party which brought various parties under one roof to fight against the BJP has been strongly opposing the idea. Yet again the party made its stand clear on this saying that the proposal is against the democratic values promised by the Constitution and is against federalism.
The serving chief of the Congress party Mallikarjun Kharge had written to the body expressing disapproval of the idea. Saying that the proposal goes against the federal system, he also made some strong comments. He observed that the committee looks like it had an opinion already. Kharge also stressed the point that Ram Nath Kovind earlier spoke in favour of the Jamili elections. Adding further Mallikarjun Kharge observed that the committee should be dissolved.
The letter raised the question of whether the Centre listens to the proposal of Kharge. Over the years the BJP earned the image of not listening to anyone and not taking a backstep from the decision. We have seen this in the agri bills row. Farmers sat on the roads to oppose the bills and other nations also supported the protests. It took a lot of time for the party to take back the bills.
Given this many wonder if the BJP will consider the proposal made by Kharge and the opposition Congress party. Let us wait and see what happens next in this row.
