In a strange turn of events, the Amaravati capital bill that was proposed by the NDA government in the parliament was opposed by AP’s own opposition party, YCP while it was supported by Telangana’s BRS.

In a significant political development, Andhra Pradesh’s ruling party YCP has openly opposed the Amaravati Capital Region Development Bill, citing concerns over state autonomy and local interests.

Senior party leader YV Subbareddy emphasized that the bill undermines the promises made to the people regarding Amaravati’s development and expressed strong resistance in Parliament.

Contrastingly, Telangana’s Bharat Rashtra Samithi extended support to the bill. MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra highlighted that BRS has always backed Amaravati’s growth initiatives and recalled former Chief Minister KCR’d active participation in laying the foundation of the capital.

The party stressed the importance of joint development of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and urged the central government to grant national status to a major irrigation project in Telangana.

This split response underscores a growing inter-state political divergence on the future of Amaravati. YCP’s opposition reflects apprehensions about the bill’s impact on local governance and resource allocation, while BRS sees it as a step toward broader regional collaboration.

Analysts note that this debate could shape the capital’s development trajectory and influence upcoming policy decisions. With Parliament witnessing contrasting positions, the Amaravati bill remains at the center of intense scrutiny, highlighting regional stakes and political alignments in South India’s evolving landscape.
