The volunteer system is the flagship initiative of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP. After coming to power Jagan started the system to take the welfare schemes to the doorsteps. These volunteers act as a bridge between the government and the beneficiaries as they deliver the scheme benefits.

The ruling party takes immense pride in the Volunteer system and says the Volunteers are an army who help in taking the welfare schemes. There are over 2 lakh Volunteers in the state. Each Volunteer will cover 50 houses.

However, there is a big criticism that Volunteers are working for the YCP and they would be made a part of elections. Earlier a Minister urged the Volunteers to sit inside the polling booths.

Now a sensational petition was filed in the Andhra Pradesh High Court seeking directives to stop Volunteers from being a part of elections. In the petition, the petitioner sought directives for the Election Commission to keep the Volunteers away from the election duty.

A person hailing from Bapatla moved the Court saying that the Volunteers might work for the party and hence he wants the Volunteers to be kept away from the election duties.

The opposition parties often allege that the Volunteers might be used for malpractice. Be it Chandrababu or Daggubati Purandeswari they say the same. Earlier the SEC gave orders which prevented the movement of Village and ward Volunteers for a brief period. The Government challenged the orders saying that they are stopping the welfare schemes.

YSRCP supports the Volunteer System and hopes the Volunteers will be star campaigners in the elections for the welfare schemes the government is implementing. Now the sensational petition was filed in the High Court.
