Democracy is a boon as it creates an opportunity for the voters to elect the representatives. What makes India special from many countries is that we can choose who can come to power. The value of the vote is that it is dubbed as the big weapon in our hands.

Casting a vote is our right and we can vote for anyone. Moreover, the Lok Sabha elections are near and the rest of the world is also looking at us with this. A few states will also go for the general elections.

India has the biggest youth population and we are a young nation as per the experts. This is an advantage and in a democracy, it is a good sign. But the reality is different as the youngsters are not interested in using the vote right.

Now an estimation has come out which says that less than 40 percent of people both boys and girls who are 18-19 have applied for voting rights, which is strange. While there are no exact reasons for this it is a big shock that teenagers are not interested in elections.

Teenagers today will become adults tomorrow. They should educate the next generation on the importance of the vote. But it looks like they themselves are not interested in going by the fewer numbers.

The governments, Election Commission, and NGOs often hold programs to create awareness on elections and the importance the vote holds. Despite this, there is no big response and less than 40 percent enrollment is a serious concern that needs to be addressed at the earliest.
