The 2019 elections were one of the high moments in YS Jagan’s career. He won the elections with a landslide win. Winning the elections is one thing and pushing a grand old party like TDP into a near crisis is another thing. YS Jagan became a sensation at the national level with his scale of win.

But everything went upside down in five years. In the 2024 elections, YSRCP lost and managed to win just 11 seats. The party is now fighting for the opposition party status. No one might have predicted that such a turnaround would come.

People are discussing the reasons behind the loss and they are wondering how those who stood by Jagan and built YSR’s statues also voted for TDP which is not a good trend. Which factors made this happen?

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy started his career as the heir of YSR. The Odarpu Yatras he did in the state to meet the people played a key role in building his image. As part of the Yatras Jagan inaugurated YSR’s statues in various places and met the people there.

YSR’s loyalists and fans stood by Jagan in his political journey. The tag of Rajanna’s Bidda helped Jagan a lot. Even in the campaign he used the tagline.

Coming to 2024 the situation was different. Those who stood by Jagan walked with TDP. Even in strong areas like Rayalaseema the TDP expanded its wings and won the Kadapa MLA seat which is not a small thing.

People wonder what might be the reason behind supporters staying away from Jagan. Fans who earlier set up YSR’s statues also voted for the TDP. Are they angry with Jagan or were they angry with people who are with Jagan?

There is a big talk that people who are dubbed as the left and right hands of Jagan are the reason behind supporters getting angry. With the left and right hands taking over things it is said that there is a gap between Jagan and his supporters. Forget about common people even MLAs faced the same.

Cadre is the soul and heart of any party and YCP is no different. Many felt that the cadre was ignored in the last five years. After coming to power Cadre was ignored is what the supporters say.

There is another factor that helped the YCP come to power which is the social media wing. If we look at what happened in 2019, social media put its heart into taking Jagan’s wave to the public. But the wing was ignored. Observers say that all the reasons might have played a role in supporters ignoring Jagan.
