Are Ponniyin Selvan Team Ignoring Telugu Market?

Legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam's dream project 'Ponniyin Selvan' came out last year. The first part turned out to be a big hit as it minted more than 400 crores worldwide. But most of the collections were from Tamil Nadu and overseas market. The movie did not perform as expected in other languages. It got poor collections from the Telugu states while it failed badly in the North Indian market.

The first part of 'Ponniyin Selvan' was not promoted aggressively in Telugu and all the makers did as one interview and a pre-release event. This affected the film's box office prospects. Now, the 'PS 2' is all set to hit the screens on 28th April and trade pundits predict that it is going to break all the Kollywood records that the first part created. As we know, Tamil movies get a wonderful reception in the Telugu states. Dhanush's 'Sir' become a good hit recently and even movies like 'Love Today' which had fresh faces was a profitable venture in Telugu states. The same goes for movies like 'Sardar', 'Varasudu' and others.

A lot of Tamil heroes promote their films in Telugu as well but it looks like the team of 'PS 2' are not focusing on the Telugu market at all. The movie is filled with stars that are popular in Telugu states too but the makers are giving first priority to the Tamil audience and second priority to the Northern market. A movie with such a huge budget needs money from all corners and a lack of proper marketing in Telugu will result in costing them heavily according to experts. Let us wait and see if the team of 'PS 2' change their decision or not.

Produced under Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies banners, the cast of the film includes Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman and R Parthiban. Ravi Varman is the director of photography while Sreekar Prasad is the editor. The action was composed by Kecha Khamphakdee, Sham Kaushal & Dhilip Subbarayan.
