As Balakrishna Vacates, Venkatesh Takes Up Dasara Slot

Nandamuri Balakrishna's Akhanda looked set for Dasara release but that isn't happening anymore. The movie unit will soon be leaving to Goa for the final schedule and the entire shoot will be wrapped up with this schedule. In all likelihood, this Goa schedule will go on till the end of September. At this rate, the film's shoot will be wrapped up only by the end of September or early October. So, making it to the theaters on the occasion of Dasara, 13th October is practically impossible. The makers seem to have realized the same as they have vacated the Dasara release date and moved on to a new release date. It is all but confirmed that Akhanda won't be hitting the silver screens this Dasara season. Consequently, the coveted 13th October slot, which has the advantage of being a long weekend has been left vacant.
Now, it is heard that the makers of Venkatesh's Drushyam 2 are eyeing the Dasara release slot, albeit not for theatrical release but for direct to digital release. The makers plan to release the film directly on Disney Hotstar on the 13th of October. Suresh Babu, who is producing the film has already initiated talks with Disney Hotstar management regarding the release date. Even the Disney Hotstar management is eager to lock 13th October as the film's digital premieres date, given the festival season advantage. The final call will be taken very soon and an official announcement will be made correspondingly.
It is very much evident that Balakrishna has left the Dasara slot vacant and Venkatesh has taken up the same. Incidentally, the makers of Drushyam 2 waited for clarity regarding the 13th October release slot as they felt it wouldn't be fair to lock horns with a theatrical release and that a Balakrishna's film. Now that the Balakrishna starrer has differed it release plans, the line is cleared for Venkatesh's Drushyam 2. We can expect the makers of Drushyam 2 and Disney Hotstar to issue an official announcement on the release date by the end of this month. Now, it remains to be seen if any other Telugu biggie will take up the 13th October release slot.
