Sudheer Babu hasn't had a single hit after 'Sammohanam'. His last outing 'Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali' disappointed the audience despite his good performance. He is back again with an action thriller titled 'Hunt'. The trailer generated good expectations and let us dive into the review straight away.

Story:

Arjun (Sudheer Babu) is an Assistant Commissioner in Hyderabad city. Mohan (Srikant0 and Aryan (Bharat) are his good friends in the department. Aryan gets a gallantry award for a terrorism operation he did with Arjun. While receiving the award, Aryan gets killed on the stage. While investigating the case, Arjun speaks with Mohan on the phone and he loses his memory after getting into an accident. Due to this, the investigation starts from the beginning and how does Arjun find the culprit and what kind of challenges he faces forms the rest of the story.

Analysis:

'Hunt' is a remake of 'Mumbai Police' movie which came a decade back. Knowing the film's story, one wonders why the makers decided to remake It in Telugu. One should appreciate Sudheer Babu for coming ahead and doing the lead role. Many heroes would not agree to do this role but the 'V' hero readily agreed to it without thinking about what the audience would feel. This shows how the heroes are changing. While it is great to showcase a story without any inhibitions, it is equally important to come up with a tight screenplay rather than relying on a single twist. This is where the 'Hunt' team faltered. While the twist before the end definitely shocks you, the rest of the proceedings fail to capture the interest of the audience.

Movies based on murder case investigation which runs on a thriller mode throughout are becoming regular in Telugu. 'HIT' and 'HIT 2' are recent examples of that. 'Hunt' is a similar sotry where the story is about a police officer who investigates the murder of his good friend and co-worker. The hero faces a lot of hurdles and one of them is losing his memory in an accident. He starts the investigation and the starting the film from that point is a good move. The movie shifts back and forth constantly. Though 'Hunt' begins on a gripping note, it loses steam quite quickly. The scenes establishing the three heroes are not interesting and the back stories are quite normal too. The director failed to create a curiosity among the audience regarding the mystery over the villain. Failure to showcase some threads in an intriguing fashion proved to be a huge mess. The graph falls down heavily before the pre-climax but the suspense increases among the audience when the reveal begins. The last twist definitely shocks you but the entire graph cannot go up again with one twist. It is very important to showcase what kind of film is being offered through the promos. The team faltered a bit here as well. People who like thriller movies can have a look at it if they have patience but it is a tough watch for the normal audience.

Performances:

Sudheer Babu is improving with each and every film. The maturity in his acting is becoming more and more visible these days. Despite the results, he is satisfying the audience with his acting skills. Sudheer impressed everyone in his typical police officer role. His versatility shows in the different shades he managed to showcase. We get amazed by his performance during the climax sequences. He even portrayed the negative shades wonderfully as well. The entire focus is on him throughout the movie. The rest of the actors are just okay. Srikant's character looks vital to the story but he did not do anything special. 'Premiste' Bharat looks good but there is not unique about his character. Chitra Shukla, Kabir Singh, Mime Gopi and others are fine.

Performances:

Ghibran did a decent job in a movie that has zero songs. His background scores go with the flow and doesn't stand out. The movie itself doesn't have a lot of excitement which takes away the effectiveness of the re-recording. Arul Vincent's cinematography is quite good. The way he filmed the action sequences are worth mentioning. The visuals are very good. The production values are ok. Director Mahesh Surapaneni followed the Malayalam original as it is. He gave the screenplay credit to the original writers. But he failed to get good marks as a director. Despite having a decent story, the screenplay is not gripping.

Verdict: 'Hunt' – Good Point But Not Great Execution!

Rating: 2.25/5
