Key TDP leaders stay away from polling in Tirupati

The lack of will to fight was all too clearly visible among the TDP rank and file on polling day in Tirupati Lok Sabha bypoll on Saturday. While the YSRCP MLAs, corporators, MLCs and other key leaders queued up to cast

Several TDP leaders did not even bother to cast their vote. In fact, only former MLA Sugunamma was seen moving around the booths and took stock of the situation. He cast her vote early in the morning. On the contrary, the YSRCP leaders were seen moving round on the ground and inspected various booths in the Lok Sabha constituencies. They had taken care to cast their votes early in the morning. MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy was among the earliest to cast his vote in his booth. With the leaders skipping the polling day tour of the booths, several third and fourth rung leaders virtually stayed away from the polling. As a result, the polling percentage fell down drastically. Unlike the panchayat and the corporation elections, he polling percentage remained very low. Till late in the afternoon, the polling in several booths hovered around 30 per cent.

Interestingly, the BJP workers came out and voted vigorously. BJP senior leader Shanta Reddy has identified several fake voters waiting for their turn to vote in the queue lines and sent them back. Several other BJP workers too joined her and sent back fake voters. TDP candidate Panabaka Lakshmi too has sent back some fake voters.
