Mani Ratnam's Magnum Opus Kick Starts The Shoot

He announced long back that he wants to make a film from the novel, Ponniyan Selvan, which talks about next in kin, accession to the throne of Chola Dynasty with Raja Raja Chola as the main character.



Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bacchan, Rahman, Jayam Ravi, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Karthi, Prabhu, Sarath Kumar, Jayaram, Ashwin and Kishore are said to be the official cast of the Magnum opus from Mani Ratnam.

Due to previous big budget flops of Mani Ratnam like Ravannan, Kadal and Katru Velidayi/Cheliyaa, many producers have restrained from financing the project.

The project budget is said to be around 350-400 crores and it could be a two part or three part film series, it seems.

Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions have started the production finally and Lyca came forward to produce the film after Mani delivered a box-office hit with Chekka Chivantha Vaanam in Tamil.

This movie shoot started in Bangkok recently and it will continue in several countries where there are no problems with latest technology dominating the areas, it seems.

Movie will take at least one year to complete and Mani is taking it as his lifetime dream project it seems. Jeyamohan wrote dialogues and Kumar Vel wrote the screenplay for the film along Mani Ratnam.

AR Rahman is scoring music and Ravi Varman is handling cinematography for this huge epic.
