If you could recall, Kamal Haasan took a revolutionary step when his much-awaited flick 'Vishwaroopam' faced release troubles due to then AIADMK Government led by Jayalalithaa. He decided to screen the film on Television all over Tamil Nadu on Day 1 itself through the DTH Service. Kamal, however, called off the plan after receiving severe backlash from Distributors and Exhibitors who bought the theatrical rights.
Six years later, Mukesh Ambani had come up with a similar plan to create a revolution on the DTH Platform. At the Reliance AGM held Yesterday, He announced that Customers availing premium packages of Jio Giga Fiber will be able to watch feature films at their homes on the release day itself from Mid-2020.
Mukesh Ambani's announcement not only stunned other DTH Providers but also the Indian Film Industry. This move could prove costly for Distributors and Exhibitors who invest crores on theatrical rights. May be, Indian Film Industry should find a solution for it before Reliance kickstarts it's mission.
