PM Modi dents CM Jagans aspirations to introduce English medium education!

With an aim to provide quality education and revamp the education system in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has taken the decision to introduce English as the medium of instruction at the graduation level for both state run and private colleges across the state.

However, the decision might face a tough situation as Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently announced that Engineering courses will be offered in five regional languages including Telugu.

Marking the occasion of the first anniversary of the new National Education Policy (NEP), Narendra Modi interacted with the Chief Ministers virtually.

During the interaction, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the decision to launch an Engineering course in regional languages. He said 14 languages in eight states were selected to start the courses.

As per the new policy, the Engineering courses will be taught in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi and Bangla. An exercise to translate the course into the languages will also be started.

Giving reason for this, the Prime Minister said, making a provision of enabling the students to study in the regional languages will surely benefit them, more particularly to those who belong to the rural and tribal areas.

The Centre's move is surely a set back to Jagan Mohan Reddy who is firm on his decision to introduce English as a medium of instruction so that the employment opportunities for the students will increase.

The government had even issued a circular to the colleges that offer undergraduate courses to start English from the education year.

It is known that back in 2019, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government had announced that the state run schools across the state would be converted to English.

The announcement had made the opposition parties in the state to target the Andhra Pradesh government over the move. The government was even accused of killing the Telugu language.

We have to wait and see what the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister would do with the union government announcing the launching of the Engineering course in regional languages.

The colleges were also selected to start the course in regional languages. The course is likely to come into effect from next academic year.
