The theatres in Telangana are finally going to open and the government has released a GO too. They allowed the theatres to run with 50% occupancy but the producers are not pleased with this right from the beginning. They fear that the films will end up in losses if only 50% were allowed. Films of star heroes are made with a heavy budget and if there are no houseful boards in the first three days, the investment cannot be recovered.
They claim that it is hard to run theatres with 50% capacity and at least 75% needs to be filled. They state that the government needs to take a decision regarding this 25% and added that big films can't be released without packed crowds and hoped that situation restores to normal by the Sankranti season.
The government reportedly claims that they can recover the full amount if they run 6-7 shows per day instead of 4 but it increases the theatre maintenance cost as per the experts. They say that more shows result in more expenditure and the only way to recover the budgets with half occupancy is to double the ticket rates. But there is a risk of people not going to theatres if the rates are doubled. Let us wait and see what happens in the coming weeks.
