2004
release 'Yagnam' was the first break for Gopichand and AS Ravikumar
Chowdary. The duo teamed up again after a long gap at the time when Gopi
was in good form with 'Loukyam' & 'Jil', and Chowdary tasted
success with 'Pilla Nuvvu Leni Jeevitham'. Did they deliver yet another
success to claim themselves to be a successful combo?
Synopsis:
Seenu
(Gopichand) meets Sailaja (Regina Cassandra) during a train journey and
its like love at first sight for him. Though she rejects him initially,
Sailaja falls in love after a point and that's when she gets kidnapped
by a Gang. At this juncture, Seenu leaves for Kolkata to fulfill the
promise given to a Gangster Bapuji (Pradeep Rawat). Finally, He comes to
know that the Girl for whom he has come to Kolkata is none other than
his lover Sailaja who is the Daughter of Don PR's (Dhevan). Rest of the
story is about how he uses all his tricks to end his love story on a
happy note.
Performances:
Gopichand
acted confidently and took more care when it comes to dances and
fights. But, His hardwork goes in vain due to poor characterization.
Audience
question 'Why did Regina sign the film when she was cast in an
insignificant role?'. She should be more cautious while choosing
subjects and take up only challenging or those with scope for
performance.
Mollywood Villain Dhevan's entry was grand but the
graph wasn't maintained till the end. All the villains appear just as
jokers towards the climax.
Pruthvi evokes laughter in few scenes.
Brahmanandam made desperate attempts to tickle the funny bone and he
bring a bit of comedy relief. Saptagiri was wasted completely. Posani
entertains but his role was limited to just few minutes. There is
nothing special about rest of Cast.
Pros:
Spoofs
Cons:
Time & Tested Template
Predictable Screenplay
Direction
Technicalities:
A
couple of songs composed by Anup Rubens were fine. However, The
Background Score provided by him is below par. Camera Work by Prasad
Murella in flawless. Story & Dialogues of Sreedhar Sipana were
routine. Even Kona-Gopi Mohan failed to create any impact. Bhavya
Creations maintained good Production Values. AS Ravikumar Chowdary who
is comfortable with mass subjects handled a comedy entertainer this
time. Half-way through the film, Audience get a feeling films in this
genre aren't his cup of tea.
Analysis:
Once
in a while, Audience embrace movies with routine content as long as
they are entertaining. For example, 'Loukyam'! There is other category
here…Films that were rejected by Movie Buffs for stale comedy,
predictable to the core screenplay & loads of unconvincing scenes.
'Soukyam' falls in this category!!
'Soukyam' gives a feeling to
the viewers that it just a poor by-product of 'Loukyam'. No matter how
routine the plot might be, Films with taut screenplay have ended as
money spinners on a lot of occasions. One don't find any such
surprise/thrilling elements in 'Soukyam' and its a wake up call for
so-called successful writers Kona Venkat & Gopi Mohan.
Only
the first 20 Minutes of 'Soukyam' is engaging and the rest ends on a
predictable note. Initially, Jayaprakash Reddy and Posani entertain with
their dialogue delivery and timing. Audience feel a bit of discomfort
soon after the love story of lead pair began and their patience was
tested by dragging it till the Interval block. Sadly, The Second Half is
terrible and utterly boring till the very end.
Family Emotions
in 'Soukyam' failed to hit the right chord with the audience. Even the
father-son emotional scenes weren't up to the mark. Huge Casting and the
blend of comedy/action/emotions/glamour didn't make 'Soukyam' at least a
so-so entertainer. The end result will be a big lesson for Tollywood
Heroes, Directors, & Producers!!
Bottom Line: Better Watch Loukyam again!!
