Tamil directors, Mani Ratnam, Shankar, AR Mugugadoss, Vetrimaran, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Lingusamy, Mysskin, Sasi, Vasanta Balan, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and others have launched a new production house, Rain On Films, Pvt Ltd.
This group of filmmakers plans to bankroll Tamil films and web series under the production house. They intend to also encourage young and inspiring talent. They have set a new precedent.
Tamil directors are not setting a new example for Telugu directors to follow. Directors joining forces to produce more content is a positive sign as we can rest assured that they will work on content-rich films.
Telugu directors like Sukumar, Krish, and Koratala Siva have started producing films on their own but none of them have come forward collectively to produce content as a unit. Now, Tamil filmmakers have shown how it is done.
The Telugu film industry is much more lucrative and cash-heavy than Kollywood and that opens up new avenues for Telugu filmmakers. But will they come forward as a unit? We have to wait and watch.
