Tamilians Threatening Telugu Movies After PS -1 Criticism!

Legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam's prestigious project 'Ponniyin Selvan' came out this Friday. It was Mani Ratnam's dream project and he wanted to make it for the past three decades. He finally conceived it after a lot of struggle as the first part hit the screens worldwide. Unfortunately, the big-budget action-drama got a mixed response on its first day.

While the Tamil audience are singing laurels about 'PS - 1', the audience from other languages are not that impressed by it. Especially, the Telugu audience were quite disappointed with film and a few commented that it does not engage the audience at any point. Even the critics in Tollywood gave the reviews accordingly.

The people from Tamil Nadu are not able to digest 'Ponniyin Selvan - 1' getting such bad reception and they are taking out the anger on Telugu audience and Telugu movies. They are saying that Telugu people only like films with item songs and unrealistic action sequences which is why they are failing to understand the greatness of 'PS - 1'.

In this process, they are coming up with posts criticizing world class films like 'Baahubali' and 'RRR'. Some of them are stating that they encouraged Telugu films but wouldn't do that anymore if 'PS - 1' is criticized. A popular critic Prasanth Rangaswamy wrote on social media, "We have no issues with Telugu movies winning big in Tamilnadu. But if u wantedly try to bring a tamil movie down - we will hit back for sure !"

What people need to understand is the fact that the Telugu audience are encouraging Tamil films even before the so-called was born. Starting from 'Prema Sagaram' and 'Marapuraani Chitram' to the recent 'Vikram', a lot of Tamil films ended up as blockbusters. The Telugu movie lovers encouraged good content no matter who is the hero was and how small the film was.

It is because of this good nature that the Tamil heroes have a good market in the Telugu states. This is the reason why Kollywood heroes are making straight Telugu films and many Tamil directors are working with Telugu heroes and vice versa. In fact, it is our Telugu heroes who never had a market in Tamil Nadu. Barring movies like 'Baahubali' and 'RRR', not many films from Telugu were successful in Tamil Nadu.

On the other hand, we celebrate the Tamil hero film releases as our own and even postpone Telugu films for dubbing flicks if needed. This happened a lot of times. 'Yuganiki Okkadu' which was a commercial failure in Tamil was a super hit in Telugu. Now, they are calling it a masterpiece. Tamil heroes like Karthi, Rajnikanth, Kamal Hassan, Suriya and others praised the Telugu audience a lot of times.

Legendary director Mani Ratnam's movies like 'Roja', 'Nayakudu', 'Gharshana', 'Bombay', 'Yuva', 'Sakhi' and 'Ok Bangaram' were hits in Telugu too. But 'Ponniyin Selvan' did not impress the Telugu audience which is why it got a mixed talk. As we know, 'Ponniyin Selvan' is a two-part story made on the basis on a popular novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. It is set in the backdrop of Chola dynasty and represented their culture. Most of the character names were hard to pronounce and there is not even one Telugu hero in the film. If the content managed to impress the audience, they would not have minded all the above-mentioned factors and it was proved a lot of times before.

But 'PS - 1' did not have any high-voltage moments and the slow narration tested the patience of the audience. There are no elevation sequences which gave goosebumps to the audience which is main reason for their disappointment. This is why people who used to like Mani Ratnam cinema too were heavily disappointed. Blaming the Telugu audience for this reason is not at all acceptable.

Praising when the audience give a blockbuster verdict and criticizing when the film itself fails to impress the audience is not right according to many. If the content is good, the reviews and ratings doesn't matter and people walk into theatres without minding about the language. This applies for 'Ponniyin Selvan' too. Experts are not encouraging the Tamil people criticizing and threatening the Telugu cine lovers due to this.
