The prestigious Oscar award which is regarded as the biggest appreciation for any filmmaker has come Indian cinema's way. The 95th Annual Academy awards was held on the night of March 12th and India has got two Oscars this year. The first Oscar however was bagged by 'The Elephant Whisperers' team in 'The Best Documentary Short Film' category.
Directed by Kartiki Gonsalves, the story has been written by Priscilla Gonsalves. The Indian-American Tamil short documentary film got the Oscar and it came out on Netflix on 8th December 2022. Guneeth Monga who the producer of the short film received the award. The documentary is about the bond that develops between a couple and an orphaned baby elephant.
The documentary was made in Tamil and this documentary short film showcases the significance of nature and how to protect it at all costs. The movie was liked by 97% of people. Speaking about the documentary, Kartiki Gonsalves said, "I met Raghu [the baby elephant] when he was exactly three months old. I spent about a year and a half with him when he was a tiny baby before this became a documentary."
It is great to see India bagging two Oscar awards and may the spotlight shine on 'The Elephant Whisperers' as brightly as it is falling on 'Naatu Naatu' song from 'RRR'.
