She stays in Hyderabad along with her daughter Sravanthi in Banjara Hills. Jamuna's age is 86. After the news broke out, condolence messages were pouring in.

Jamuna's mortal remains will be placed at the Filmnagar Chamber so that her fans can pay their last tributes. The Tollywood fraternity is mourning her death and the members are expected to reach the Chamber.

Jamuna was born in Karnataka's Hampi on August 30 in 1936. However, she was brought up in Duggirala in the Guntur district. She finished her schooling in Duggirala only. Jamuna learned vocal music when she was young. Later she started doing plays and ventured into films eventually.

Jamuna made her debut in Tollywood with Puttillu in 1953 at the age of 14 years. She scored good marks with her debut film only. Jamuna got the first big hit in the industry with the Donga Ramudu film starring Akkineni Nageswara Rao.

She hails from a Kannada family and Kannada is her mother tongue. Her father Nippani Srinivasa Rao was a businessman and used to do turmeric and tobacco business. Her family reached Duggirala, in the Guntur District, and settled there. She finished her childhood there.

Jamuna acted in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi films. Her acting skills were such that makers of the films prefer her for the remakes of her films in other languages. With that, she got the opportunity to act in other languages. When Mooga Manasulu was remade in Hindi as Milan she reprised her role. For that, she received the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award.

The legendary actress got the rare record of acting in two generations of actors. After acting with Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao and Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Jamuna acted with next-generation actors like Superstar Krishna, Krishnam Raju, and others.

Jamuna decided to do something for the society and started an organisation named the Telugu artist association. The organisation has been doing social justice for over two and a half decades.

Jamuna started the tradition of actresses joining politics. She joined the grand old Congress party and served as a Lok Sabha member. Later she shifted her loyalties to the Bharatiya Janata Party and even campaigned for the party in the 1990s when Atal Bihari Vajpayee led the saffron party.
