The bugle has sounded for the election to the Nellore Municipal Corporation and 11 other municipalities in the AP. This again promises to be a mood-indicator of the politics in the state. For the TDP, this is a very important chance to redeem its lost prestige. More importantly, the election to the Kuppam municipality is important for the TDP as it is Chandrababu Naidu's home turf.

Interestingly, there is one major omission in the list of the incharges for these key elections. Party's general secretary Nara Lokesh has been completely eliminated. His name is found missing in the list of incharges for Kuppam. In his place, Palacole MLA Nimmala Rama Naidu's name figures in the list. Lokesh Babu's name is not found even for Nellore corporation elections, which is considered very important. This total omission of Lokesh Babu's name is being considered quite a significant pointer.

Sources say that Lokesh was incharge of Kuppam all these years. But, he was never accessible to the leaders of Kuppam. The affairs in Kuppam were managed by three or four handpicked men, who troubled and tormented sincere party leaders and workers. This led to deep resentment among the party workers in Kuppam. Chandrababu's wife and Lokesh Babu's mother Bhuvaneshwari realised this and replaced him. The TDP now realises that the abrasive behaviour of Lokesh Babu was responsible for several leaders leaving the party. Hence, she and Chandrababu have decided to divest him of the responsibility.

There is an increasing feeling that Lokesh Babu's behaviour and lack of access was responsible for the party's dismal performance in the recent local body polls. The party has ceded 80 per cent of the seats in the MPTC and ZPTC elections to the YSRCP. Hence, Bhuvaneshwari did not want to take a risk in Kuppam municipality.
