'Basti', the launch pad of Jayasudha's Son Shreayan Kapoor, hit the screens Today. The Debutante Actor claimed he wasn't interested in films until recently and fell in love with the story of 'Basti' instantly. There's an aggressive publicity campaign since the past one week and even a wide release was planned. Let's see if the launch of Sahaja Nati's successor is fruitful or not...
Synopsis:
Ammiraju (Mukesh Rushi) and Bhavani (Abhimanyu Singh), two dons in the city of Hyderabad, are arch rivals. To gain upper hand over Bhavani, Ammiraju kidnaps his Sister Sravanthi (Pragathi). Vijay (Shreayan Kapoor) who is Ammiraju's Brother returns to India from USA at this point of time. Love blossoms between Vijay and Sravanthi. Ammiraju accepts their love and decides to compromise with Bhavani to clear hurdles for their marriage. The manner in which Bhavani react to the proposal and the consequences of his decision forms the rest of the story.
Performances:
Shreayan Kapoor: He looks very handsome but can't match even 10 percent of Jayasudha's acting prowess. Heroine Pragathi appears to be a great actor when compared with her Co-Star. Though she looks cute from few angles, Overall the features one expects in a heroine are missing. None of the actors in the movie were able to leave a good impression
Pros:
Cinematography
Cons:
Shreayan Kapoor
Screenplay
Direction
Technicalities:
Couple of Songs composed by Praveen Immadi were decent but his Background Score is worse. Gunasekhar's Cinematography is the only positive aspect we find in the movie. Dialogues are routine. Production Values are below par.
Analysis:
Upon looking at the caption 'A Daring Saga Of Love', Don't expect 'Basti' to have a coming-of-age love subject. Debutante filmmaker Vasu Manthena's story & screenplay have many loopholes to spoil the movie watching experience of audience. Neither the love scenes were executed well nor the motive behind Villain's plans to kill the lead pair was explained. The only time audience felt a bit of relief is when hero utters the oneliner 'Gun Padithe Nenu Neekante Pedda Rowdini Thelusa...' as the movie comes to an end here.
Established actors like Kota Sreenivas Rao, Mukesh Rushi and Abhimanyu Singh were wasted completely due to poor characterizations. Even most sought-after comedians Ali, Saptagiri and Sathya weren't utilized properly to offer comedy relief. Inspite of all the short comings, Director's ability to convince all the unit members and make them believe they have a good product in hand is commendable.
Bottomline: A Poorly Scripted Launch Pad!
