After scoring sensational hits such as Idiot and Pokiri, Puri Jagannath choose 'Loafer' as the title for a movie based on mother sentiment. Varun Tej, on the other hand, tried an out-and-out mass role after class performances in 'Mukunda' and 'Kanche'. Did their combination work for loafer?
Synopsis:
Murali (Posani Krishna Murali) separates his Son Raja (Varun Tej) from his Mother (Revathi) and earns money through him. While Murali makes his wife believe his son is no more, He convinces his son that his mother has passed away. The Father-Son lead life as loafers by doing petty crimes in Jodhpur. One fine day, Raja falls in love with Mouni (Disha Patani) but her Aunt (Revathi) doesn't like him. How does Raja comes to know about her Mother? Does his love story have a happy ending? Grab tickets of 'Loafer' to know more...!
Performances:
Varun Tej's screen presence and new look were superb. He performs well in the sentiment scenes & fights.
Disha Patani looks gorgeous and glamour is her big investment to succeed in Film Industry. Particularly, Its a treat to watch her in the 'Nee Vaalu Kallu' song. She, however, has nothing much to perform in the talkie portions.
The role of Revathi falls short of expectations but she leaves her mark with superb performance. Posani tickles the funny bone with his typical dialogue delivery. 'Thammudu' spoof by Ali is partly entertaining. Brahmanandam appears only for few minutes. Villains over-acted to say the least.
Pros:
Posani & Revathi
Dialogues
Cons:
Screenplay
Direction
Technicalities:
Musical Score by Suniel Kashyap is fine. 'Nee Vaalu Kallu' is hummable and even the BGM isn't bad. But, Using 'Veedu…Loafer' in the background during fights doesn't make sense. PG Vinda's camera work is flawless. Dialogues penned for Posani's role were good. As writer & director, Puri fails to meet the standards set by him. He, however, leaves his mark in the scene where Revathi explains the pain of a Mother. Nothing much to complain about Production Values.
Analysis:
Puri Jagannath is one director who is damn good at making films based on hero characterization and even scored even few blockbusters walking in the same path. Off late, The freshness factor is missing in his projects due to the repetitiveness and he was unable to come out of the trend he has created. And the end result will be a poor product like 'Loafer'.
After watching trailer of 'Loafer', People got the feeling it has got traces of 'Ek Niranjan' and 'Amma Nanna Tamil Ammayi' but expected Puri might have incorporate something interesting. Unfortunately, There is nothing of that sort in 'Loafer' and even the much hyped mother-sentiment fails to hit the right chord. Had if the screenplay was gripping, Some of the flaws would have gone unnoticed but that wasn't the same in case of 'Loafer'.
Except for few interesting scenes here and there, There is nothing much in 'Loafer' to make it an enjoyable experience for the audience. Hero's Characterization and Love Track aren't impressive. Posani mark satires are the only relief in first half. Even in the second half, Only he manages to entertain the viewers. The emotional scene between Varun & Revathi has come out well. Both Pre-Climax and Climax were ordinary, lacking the much needed punch to the proceedings.
Bottom Line: Neither Idiot nor Pokiri!
