Kodi Ramakrishna is one of the very few Directors who wielded megaphone for over 100 feature films. He is the filmmaker who blended story with graphics and brought popularity to visual effects with films such as 'Ammoru', 'Anji' and 'Arundhati'. For the first time, Kodi Ramakrishna directed a Kannada flick 'Nagarahavu' which is being dubbed in Telugu as 'Nagabharanam'. What did this Graphic-based flick offers?
Synopsis:
As God can't use his full powers on a Solar Eclipse Day, A Sakti Kavacham will take care of the universe during this period. The family of Sivayya (Sai Kumar) safeguards Sakti Kavacham since decades. Unfortunately, Sakti Kavacham gets lost during Nagamma's (Ramya, Sivayya's Daughter) clash with Evil Powers. Thereafter, the reincarnation of Nagamma happens and she is reborn as Manasa (Ramya). How does Manasa save the World by getting hold of Sakti Kavacham forms rest of the tale!
Performances:
Ramya made a comeback after a long gap but she didn't leave a good impact. Lack of solid content made her performance look funny at times. Diganth looks handsome but he goes overboard. Sai Kumar is alright. Mukul Dev, Ravi Kale and Rajesh Vivek compete with each other in overaction. None of the Actors have impressed with their performances and that's the sadest part of 'Nagabharanam'.
Pros:
Few Visual Effects
Run Time (2 hr 20 min)
Cons:
Music
Screenplay
Direction
Technicalities:
One would doubt the calibre of Guru Kiran upon watching 'Nagabharanam'. Songs and Background Score were too loud and unbearable. Even Cinematography isn't up to the mark. Lot of effort and money has been put on Visual Effects but they weren't so impactful. Films of Kodi Ramakrishna are known for solid story and taut screenplay. But, 'Nagabharanam' is an exception as the Veteran Filmmaker hasn't updated.
Analysis:
Kodi Ramakrishna keeps saying Graphics should be a part of film and a movie must never be made solely for visual effects. Sadly, The Senior Filmmaker didn't practice what he preached in the case of 'Nagabharanam'. Hence, The movie stands right at the bottom in the list of his graphics-based films.
Visuals Effects in 'Nagabharanam' weren't promising and one of the reasons behind it could be budget constraint. The standard of this movie could be known with the scenes featuring late Vishnuvardhan. Neither the physic nor skin tone of the dupe matched the Kannada Superstar. This 10-minute episode looks artificial and fails to boost the graph of the movie. The graphics in scenes featuring giant snake can't even match standards of Kodi Ramakrishna's Films in the 90s.
Story & Screenplay of 'Nagabharanam' are so outdated that we get a feeling of watching 80s or 90s flick. Not even a single scene excites the audience and that's what make it a painful watch. No one knows why Actors appear on screen and disappear in between. One gets a feeling of watching a B-Grade Movie.
Patience of Audience is being tested in the First Half. The Flashback episode in Second Half reminds us of 'Arundathi' and even few stunts of 'Magadheera' were copied. Two Songs before the Climax were terrible. While leaving the theaters, People have a feeling that Kodi Ramakrishna is capable of doing much better films than 'Nagabharanam'.
Bottom Line: Don't Even Dare!
