Manchu Manoj & Dasarath - How much odd does this combination look? A decade ago, The duo teamed up for 'Sri' which ended as a dud at Box Office. This time, They opted for a 'romantic thriller' to test their luck again. Did the risk pay off?
Synopsis:
Shourya (Manchu Manoj), a Harvard Graduate, and Nethra (Regina Cassandra), an MP's Daughter, fall in love. As Nethra's Family doesn't approve their alliance, The Love Birds plan to leave for USA to spend rest of their lives. Before leaving to the airport, They visit Lord Shiva temple which Nethra likes so much and spend the whole night there itself. By the time he wakes up, Shourya finds Nethra in a pool of blood as someone had cut her throat. Cops take Shourya into custody on suspicion that he tried to kill her lover and admit Nethra in a hospital. Did Shourya really attack Nethra or Someone else is behind the murder attempt? What happened on that night? Chase the mystery by thronging theares nearby you!
Performances:
Not just the Physical Appearance, Even Manoj's Performance is completely different from what he has done in the past. Initially, His overweight appearance gives an awkward feeling but audience get used to him as the story progresses.
Regina Cassandra's role is integral part of the story but she doesn't have much scope to perform. Don't expect her to sport glamorous avatar in this concept-based movie.
After a very long time, Prakash Raj played a pivotal role and he excels as usual. Brahmanandam was wasted. Prabhas Seenu tickles the funny bone at times. Nagineedu, Subbaraju, Shayaji Shinde and Nandu were alright.
Pros:
Concept
Manchu Manoj
Twists & Turns
Cons:
Screenplay
Direction
Songs & Comedy Tracks
Technicalities:
Debutante Composer Veda.K has done a decent job. Couple of songs were good but BGM is pretty average. There's nothing special about Malvar Bhatt's Camera Work either. He failed to attain the desired tempo or tone a thriller flick requires. Dialogues by Dasarath & Kishore were passable. Screenplay by Gopimohan & Hari isn't up to the mark. Production Values were appreciable. Inspite of having a compelling story, Dasarth who walked out of his comfort zone failed in the execution part and 'Shourya' ends up as one of his weakest films till date.
Analysis:
Attempting a 'Thriller' Flick is nothing but walking on a double-edged sword. Especially, Makers can't deviate from the Central Plot and Screenplay has to be taut for offering a nail-biting finish. Duet Songs, Family Emotions and Regular Comedy are a big no for Thrillers. The major problem with 'Shourya' is Dasarth made a conscious attempt to make a thriller with all these commercial ingredients.
In the very beginning itself, Heroine was found bleeding with a cut on her throat. By Interval, Hero confesses to have attacked the Heroine on his own. Towards the climax, The mystery gets unfolded. There are few high-points in the story but Dasarth didn't succeed in getting the audience into the right mood right from the beginning.
The Love Track of Manoj & Regina is a big bore. Even Songs & Comedy Tracks looks to be complete misfit in the subject. It was only after Prakash Raj's entry, The momentum has picked up and last 30 minutes is the real strength of 'Shourya'.
Twists & Turns in the story were quite interesting. Even the game played by Protagonist to make Villains pay the price has been executed well. The way Climax was designed looks very much apt. All said, 'Shourya' doesn't give a good feeling for the audience because of the flaws in the Narration.
Bottom Line: Lacks Thrilling Stuff!
