After a successful debut with horror-comedy 'Geethanjali', Director Raaj Kiran is testing his luck with a horror-thriller 'Tripura' which stars Colors Swathi in the lead role. The promos generated good buzz and there are decent expectations on the movie. Has 'Tripura' succeeded in thrilling the audience?
Synopsis:
Tripura (Colors Swathi) is a village girl who's weird dreams turn out to be true in the real World. The tragic deaths of two people, who appear in her dream, make Tripura believe there is something wrong with her medical condition. Tripura bonds with Psychiatrist Naveen (Naveen Chandra) while undergoing the treatment and they get married happily. That's when Tripura gets the shock of her life in the form of a dream in which she sees a threat to her husband's life from herself. Has that dream turned true in real life or Was she able to find a solution?
Performances:
Colors Swathi is flawless throughout the course of the movie. Shedding the girl-next-door image and gaining weight to look much older is a bold move. She performs superbly in the emotional scenes.
Naveen Chandra as a Psychiatrist & Husband does a decent job. He was particularly more effective in the Climax block.
Rao Ramesh brings a lot of weight to his character. Sapthagiri generates few laughs. Shakalaka Shankar is okay. Jayaprakash Reddy fails to invoke laughter. Dhanraj is fine.
Pros:
Colors Swathi
Sapthagiri's Comedy
Cons:
Screenplay
Direction
Run Time
Technicalities:
Music Director Kamran has done a decent job. While two of his songs were good, Consistency is lacking in Background Score. Ravikumar Saana's Camera Work is an asset, Kona Venkat who teamed up with Veligonda Srinivas for providing Screenplay failed to add his magic touch. Even his Dialogues were nothing special. Another major flaw is the run time of 2-and-a-half hours. Trimming by at least 20 minutes could have helped in a big way. Raaj Kiran failed to leave a mark of his own on 'Tripura'. Production Values were acceptable.
Analysis:
Raaj Kiran tasted success with 'Geethanjali' by presenting a simple story in a fresh manner with good dose of entertainment. In case of 'Tripura', He weaved a story around 'weird dreams' but failed to execute it effectively till the very end.
'Tripura' is hugely inspired from Neelakanta's 'Maaya' which is also based on a similar concept. The introduction scenes of Tripura were shot in a village set-up. There after, Story shifts to city and Director managed to end the first half on a decent note with few good moments here & there.
Whereas the Second Case was designed just alike any other routine horror-comedy. The comedy scenes were just appear like a rehash of episodes in Prema Katha Chitram and Geethanjali. As the audience knew who was the antagonist much before the Climax, The thrill factor is completely lost towards the end.
Raaj Kiran made a blunder by diverting from the concept of 'dreams' in the second half. Inclusion of comedy episodes just for the sake of commercial elements worked against the movie. Confusing Screenplay & Unwanted Songs in the latter half costed heavily. Overall, 'Tripura' ends as a below-average flick.
Bottom Line: Not Thrilling Enough!
