Ram Mohan earned good reputation as Producer with films such as 'Astha Chemma', 'Golconda High School' and 'Uyyala Jampala'. Taking the advice given by his mentor D Suresh Babu too seriously, He turned into a Director for a youthful entertainer 'Thanu Nenu'. Has the debutante succeeded in winning the Box Office battle again?
Synopsis:
Kiran (Santosh Sobhan) who works in a Call Centre is a happy-go-lucky guy. He hates America to the core and doesn't have good impression about the NRIs. One fine day, Kiran meets Keerthi (Avika Gor) who's sole aim is to go to USA and both fall in love. Keerthi's Father Bandreddi Sarveswara Rao (Ravibabu) is against their relationship. Did Keerthi fulfill her Father's Wish? or Had she chosen to call off US plans for her soulmate? Grab the tickets to know more!
Performances:
Santosh Sobhan who won accolades for his role as Cricket Team captain in 'Golconda High School' turns into a hero with 'Thanu Nenu'. Just alike Nani, Srinivas Avasarala and Raj Tharun who were launched by Ram Mohan, He gave a natural performance and has got good diction. However, Inconsistencies in histrionics and dialogue delivery need to be addressed. He might have a good future if he works on the drawbacks.
Avika Gor scores nothing in terms of glamour but she performs well. Ravibabu entertains with his typical dialogue delivery, body language and mannerisms. Satya Krishna's role doesn't offer scope for acting. The two guys who played Hero's Friends were good.
Pros:
Lead Pair
Ravibabu's Performance
Music
Cons:
Screenplay
Technicalities:
Sunny MR yet again proves his music is perfect for off-beat films. Songs & Background Score gives a pleasant feel. Cinematography by Suresh is laudable. Ram Mohan-Sai Sukumar jointly worked for Story & Screenplay. Thumbs down for Screenplay! No Punch Dialogues were used in the movie. Ram Mohan shows his mark as Director in few scenes but lack of consistency in narration is a worry. Production Values were fine.
Analysis:
The concepts all the three films produced by Ram Mohan were very simple but the story weaved around it, entertaining narration, good casting & technical values did the trick. Even for 'Thanu Nenu', He struck to the same formula. Unfortunately, Screenplay was ineffective even though the film has got an interesting plot, promising cast & good technical support.
A Crucial Point which leads to the break-up of the Lead Pair looks very silly. The film lost the track from there and it causes enough boredom to the audience. Hero, a Call Centre employee, abusing NRIs over phone in working hours isn't convincing at all. Even the sequence showing Heroine giving up her dream for Hero wasn't designed well.
All attempts made by Hero to get rid of his Father-in-Law appear silly and the drama in the Second Half tests the patience of viewers. Characterizations of lead pair weren't etched properly. The role of Bandreddi played by Ravibabu is a special attraction in the movie and he generates ample humour. Final Outcome might have been different if Ravibabu's character was extended further rather than ending it abruptly.
'Thanu Nenu' would have been a good entertainer if not for the flaws in the screenplay. One gets the feeling Ram Mohan as Producer is much better than Ram Mohan as Director!
Bottom Line: Not So Appealing!
