Shocking Stat: Indians Crumbling In Canada!

After United States, it is Canada which has emerged as one of the primary destinations for Indian origin students and this has been the case for the last few years. But it appears that the job market and permanent residency aspect in Canada has also become a menace.

It has now reached a point where there are concerns about approximately 1 million Indian temporary residents in Canada who could be potentially losing legal status by mid-2026 due to expiring work and study permits. This statistical report is based on Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) data showing over 1 million permit visas had already expired in 2025 and nearly 1 million more will expire in 2026.

With Indians comprising a significant portion due to high numbers from India in sectors like technology, healthcare, and hospitality, this could seriously affect the job seekers there. We could be witnessing over 1 million visa expiries by mid 2026 itself and this will be a massive bolt to the Indian community there.This depreciation comes from Canada's shift in immigration policy starting in 2024, including caps on international students reduced by 35% initially and temporary workers, aimed at addressing housing shortages, and other measures.

After United States, even Canada has started to crack down on permanent residency options and has been preferring only high skilled individuals rather than the masses.
