The Consulate General of India in Houston confirmed the news and expressed deep condolences to the grieving family.
In a statement shared on social media, the Consulate said they were in constant touch with the victim’s family and assured all possible assistance. They also confirmed that the accused was taken into custody by Dallas Police and that the matter is being closely monitored.
According to police reports, the 50-year-old victim, originally from Karnataka, was employed at a local motel. On the day of the incident, he reportedly had an argument with one of his co-workers, 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez. The dispute started after Nagamallaiah instructed the accused not to use a faulty washing machine and asked another employee to help translate the message. This angered the accused leading to the violent attack.
Authorities revealed that Cobos-Martinez armed himself with a machete and attacked Nagamallaiah multiple times. Despite his attempt to escape, the victim was chased and fatally assaulted. Tragically, his wife and 18-year-old son, who were present at the scene, tried to intervene but could not prevent the attack.
Police later apprehended the accused near the site. He was found carrying the weapon and was immediately arrested. Local media reported that surveillance footage and eyewitness accounts helped law enforcement make a quick arrest. The Dallas Police Department confirmed that charges will be filed, and further investigation is underway.
