The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced fresh changes to the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) rules, making it simpler for residents and non-residents. Now, the 12-digit unique Aadhaar number can be updated both online and offline, according to the recent notification.

Under the updated rules, UIDAI has launched two new forms for enrolling in Aadhaar and updating information. The changes, known as the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Amendment Regulations, 2024, aim to enhance accessibility.

Applicants now have the flexibility to update information in the Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR) by visiting an enrolment center or using the website/mobile application. Unlike the previous 2016 rules that only allowed address updates online, the revised regulations permit updating various details through online forms and mobile applications.

UIDAI has revamped the old forms for user-friendliness. Form 1 is for individuals aged 18 and above, both residents and non-resident Indians (NRIs), applying for an Aadhaar number or updating details. Form 2 is designed specifically for NRIs with proof of address outside India.

Forms 3 to 6 cater to the enrolment and updates for children of different age groups, both residents and NRIs. These forms address specific age ranges and address proof requirements.

Proof of age is now mandatory, ensuring accurate birth dates on Aadhaar cards. UIDAI allows enrolment based on document verification or confirmation by the Head of Family (HoF). NRIs need to provide an email ID for Aadhaar, and if a non-Indian mobile number is given, no SMS/text messages will be sent.

These changes streamline the Aadhaar process, making it more user-friendly and accessible for all, whether updating online or at an enrolment center.
