Rocket Blasts off with Indias First Space Observatory

India's first space observatory successfully blasted off from Sriharikota space centre on Monday. An Indian rocket carrying the country's first Space Observatory took off from the launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre. Exactly at 10 a.m. the 44.4 metres tall weighing around 320 ton polar satellite launch vehicle's XL variant (PSLV-XL) blasted off the first launch pad at the rocket port amidst the cheers of scientists.

ASTROSAT is india's first dedicated multi-wavelength space observatory. It will help in understanding the universe as per scientists.With successful launch of ASTROSAT, India joined a select group of nations owning space observatory. Besides ASTROSAT, the rocket carries six other foreign satellites.
