An FIR has been registered against two former Chief Ministers of Karnataka - BS Yeddyurappa and HD Kumaraswamy by Lokayukta police in connection with the denotification case.

In 2010, Then Chief Minister Yeddyrappa denotified an acre and eleven guntas of prime land at Gangenahalli for allegedly doing a favour to his political friend HD Kumaraswamy who became an opponent later due to the changing political scenario in the state.

Actually, This particular land at Gangenahalli village was acquired by BDA in the year 1976 from 3 People (Thimma Reddy, T. Nagappa and Muniswamappa) for Mathadahalli layout. It was in 2007, A man named Rajashekharaiah claimed ownership of the land and applied for denotification. HD Kumaraswamy who was Chief Minister then pushed for the denotification inspite of officials caution. He, however, couldn't complete the process during his regime and Yeddyurappa who succeeded him as CM denotified the land in 2010 favouring land owners. Finally, The news of Vimala who is Kumaraswamy's mother-in-law emerging as end beneficiary as she hold the power of attorney from the original land owners sparked the controversy.
