AP Government has develop its own Smart Cities instead of relying completely on the Centre which is mulling on the 100 Smart Cities project. It already appointed Price Water-House Coopers (PWC) as the consultant for the Smart City project.

Earlier, AP Govt sent proposals to include 7 cities of Andhra Pradesh in the project of 100 Smart Cities across the country. Centre will be announcing the 100 Smart Cities it has chosen on June 25th.

Without waiting for the decision of Centre, State Government decided to take up the ambitious project which include proposed capital area Vijayawada-Guntur, Tirupati, Rajahmundry, Kakinada, Kurnool and Nellore. International Agencies were asked to prepare Master Plan for the Smart Cities. Cyber Connectivity, Road-Rail-Air Transport, Infrastructure, Drinking Water Supply, Waste Management and Sewerage are the areas to be focussed.

Visakhapatnam was earlier selected for Centre's 100 Smart Cities project.
