US favours India-Pakistan dialogue to calm LoC
By: Tupaki Desk | 17 Jan 2013 9:42 AM GMTThe United States has said it favours a dialogue between India and Pakistan as the "right way" to resolve tensions over the killing of two Indian soldiers along the Line of Control in Kashmir.
"We favour dialogue between India and Pakistan on this issue in any and all channels that both governments consider appropriate," State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland told reporters Wednesday in response to a question.
"That's the right way to work through this," she added.
Nuland said US was concerned about the violence along the LoC, but was encouraged that the two countries had recommitted to a dialogue to calm the situation.
"We are concerned about the spate of violence along the Line of Control," she said. "We are encouraged, though, that senior levels in the Indian and Pakistani Government have been talking directly about how to calm the situation and how to address the concerns."
"We were happy, just in the last 24 hours, to see both governments recommit to dialogue as the right way forward on this, and that's what we support,"Nuland said.
