Navy chopper crashes off Vizag coast, two missing

Two Navy personnel were injured and two others missing Tuesday after a helicopter of Indian Navy crashed off the coast of Visakhapatnam, officials said.

The Chetak helicopter of the Eastern Naval Command crashed around 3.30 p.m, about 10 nautical miles from Visakhapatnam coast.

Two personnel who were rescued were shifted to hospital. The Navy launched rescue operations with helicopters, shops and divers to trace the two other missing personnel.

According to Eastern Naval Command, the helicopter, with four crew members on board, took off from INS Dega at about 2 p.m. on a routine mission.

The Air Traffic Control (ATC) lost control with the helicopter around 3.30 p.m. and the helicopter failed to return to the base at the estimated time.

The two survivors were shifted to the Naval hospital INHS Kalyani.

The Eastern Naval Command, which has its headquarters in Visakhapatnam, has order a probe into the accident.
