Telangana bill, security to top NDA agenda in parliament

A bill to create Telangana state would top the agenda of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in parliament's winter session starting Thursday besides the issues related to security, safety of women and the 2G spectrum allocation, said party leaders Wednesday.

The NDA met here in the evening after senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders met in the day to chalk out their strategy for the coming session.

"The NDA wants the Telangana bill to be introduced in the winter session," BJP's deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters.

Earlier, senior BJP leaders, including party president Rajnath Singh, L.K. Advani, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley held deliberations on the session, starting Thursday.

However, Prasad downplayed a query if the BJP may get more aggressive and disrupt the house after exit polls predicted its victory in three or more states out of five where the assembly polls were held.

"This will be the last session of this Lok Sabha in which legislative work can be done, so we want the house to function. We also expect that since the government has listed several bills for passage, it will cooperate. Of late, we have seen that Congress members themselves have been disrupting the house," he said.
