Continuing with its move to cleanse the Income Tax department of corruption, the Central Board for Direct Taxes has asked 21 top IT officials to resign from their jobs voluntarily. Among these 21 tainted and corrupt officials are three from Andhra Pradesh. They have been asked to resign in view of the serious misdemeanours and corruption. This is the fifth time that the Central Government is removing corrupt IT officers. There are several corruption cases against these officials and many of them have been caught red-handed while they were involved in corrupt practices like taking bribes, tampering records and others.

Among the three tainted officials are – one from Visakhapatnam, one from Hyderabad and the other from Rajahmundry. Three of the removed officials are from Mumbai's Central office of the CBDT and two from Thane. This cleansing is part of the campaign that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched against corruption in the bureaucracy. Since June this year, this is the fifth time that corrupt income tax officials have been asked to voluntarily retire.

Till now as many as65 tainted IT officials have been asked to resign from their jobs. IT is considered one of the most corrupt departments in the government's general administration.
