Has the dark menace of fake and bogus voting that is quite common in the Old City of Hyderabad come to Khammam too? If opposition, including the BJP and the Congress are to be believed, there are fake voters galore in Khammam, which will go to polls on April 30 and that they are going to tilt the balance in the civic body elections.
The opposition points out that in the booth number 119 of Ward No 20, as many as 600 out of the 900 voters are from just one address. According to the BJP leaders, 600 votes are registered on 5-7-200. The address houses the Mamatha Medical College Hostel. But, what is more disconcerting, according to the BJP candidate from Ward No 20 Vijaya Reddy, is that the candidates are not being allowed into the campus to canvass for votes. The security personnel are preventing the candidates from the Opposition claiming it is a private premises. Vijaya Reddy claims that there are over 3000 such votes in just one division. She claimed that the names of those who have passed out and left the hostel years ago , too have been included in the voters list on this address.
This appears to be the trend in other divisions too. Both the Congress and the BJP have accused Minister Puvvada Ajay, whose wife Vasantha Lakshmi is likely to become the mayor if the TRS wins the election, of plotting to enroll bogus voters in a large number. The elections would be held on Friday.
