It's a known fact that unemployment in India and the slow growth of the economy have hit the roof. This resulted in great difficulty in getting job opportunities even for candidates who have done their post-graduation.

Even worst took place in Coimbatore, Tamilnadu. Almost 7,000 engineers, Mcom graduates, diploma-holders have applied for 549 posts of sanitary workers in city Corporations. We can imagine how hard unemployment has hit the country.

The official sources state that for 549 grade-1 sanitary posts 7,000 candidates have appeared for the interview which longed for three days. Officials were shocked to know the educational background of the applicants.

It is believed that some of the applicants are already working in private companies but they have applied after knowing that the starting pay scale is Rs 15,700 that too its a government job.

Sanitary workers who are already working with the corporation with experience of 10 years have also appeared for the interview as this is a permanent job.

In some cases, graduates who have to look after their families have applied with no hope of getting jobs in private firms.

Some of the candidates stated that we get 20,000 per month for working three hours in the morning and evening each which grants us leisure time to work on other jobs too.

The city Corporation is currently employing 2,000 permanent sanitary workers and 500 on a contract basis.
