The Neighbouring states Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been locking horns with each other concerning the issues of drawing water from the common reservoirs.

Keeping an end to the issues, the union government issued a Gazette notification in this regard, which says the water will be distributed among the two states as per the state bifurcation.

In the Gazette notification, the centre made it clear that the last word and decision in the water sharing disputes will be of the board. The powers enjoyed by the board were announced only after the Telangana government assured that it will cancel the petition filed in the Supreme Court.

The Apex Council officials said that the powers and jurisdiction of the board was fixed after taking a lot of issues into consideration.

Andhra Pradesh and Telangana should take bare the maintenance cost of the boards for which each state should pay a sum of Rs 200 crore within sixty days of the issuance of the notification. In the notification, the water board said that central forces will be deployed at the projects

The Andhra Pradesh government has welcomed the notification and opined that it will end the disputes between the states. AP advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy spoke to the media and expressed his happiness over the notification.

He said Chief Minister Jagan has fought for the interests of the state as per the Constitution and said the issues would have not erupted if the jurisdiction of the boards had been fixed at the time of the bifurcation of the state.
